TSHIRT DESIGN

In 2023, I embarked on a project that combined my love for graphic design and fashion. Having taken Graphic Design as my elective course in 10th grade, I wanted to showcase my skills through clothing. I created four unique T-shirt designs using Illustrator and Photoshop, experimenting with various techniques to bring my ideas to life.

For my designs, I aimed to blend different aesthetics:

• Traditional Indian patterns and ideas

• Retro Theme: I incorporated a retro theme into the sleeve logos, giving them a nostalgic yet trendy vibe.

• Gradient Maps: To achieve a modern aesthetic, I utilized gradient maps, adding depth and dimension to the designs.

• Nature-Inspired Design: For one T-shirt, I photographed the orchids in my garden and drew over them, creating cool, unique shapes with distinct characteristics.

Once the designs were ready, I needed plain T-shirts that fit my budget. After searching both in stores and online, I ordered a batch of plain T-shirts. The next challenge was printing. I experimented with a few different printers, making several iterations to perfect the colors and print quality, making sure lines were not so thin that they would peel off.

This project taught me a lot about using digital mediums to create designs, sourcing materials, finding and working with vendors like printers, and effectively communicating my specifications. It was a rewarding experience that combined creativity, technical skills, and practical problem-solving.  I ended up selling over 20 of my sweat shirts and enjoyed the experience.
